#436 – Why the future belongs to storytellers

Why would someone who can have any job they want*, take a job at a film studio?

That's the question I asked myself when I saw that Scott Belsky, who founded Behance, sold it (to Adobe), became an angel investor, re-joined Adobe as Chief Strategy Officer is now moving to A24**, news which was quickly picked up by all the major media publications.

I could understand if he left for some hot AI startup. But an indie film studio?

Well maybe it's because the future belongs to storytellers.

There are three disciplines you should focus on.

Number one, engineering.
Number two, engineering.
and number three, engineering.

And if you get any chance at night, get some engineering classes while you're getting your engineering training.

'Cause everything else is bullshit. It's just a hobby.

I don't feel that way at all anymore.
At all.

Because I look at people that I used to hire for $25,000 a year: photographers, videographers, writers, artists.

They're costing me a quarter of a million a year and I can't even hire them as staff anymore.

They only take contract work 'cause they're doing two deals, or three companies at the same time, pulling in $700,000 a year and they're only 28 years old.

It's a renaissance for artists.

*Or maybe Scott's always dreamed of being in film?!
**A24 has killer merch by the way.
