Building a Better Booking System

The U.K.’s largest screen, the BFI IMAX, has sold 33,000 advance tickets for Dune: Part Three in just 24 hours, breaking the first-day presale record set by The Odyssey.
– Hollywood Reporter
This week, I, and 99,999 other people, tried to book tickets to watch Dune 3 on the biggest screen in the UK, the BFI IMAX in London.
With a 100K people trying to access the site there was an hour queue just to get in and then once you were in you had to navigate the traditional cinema booking system.
Clicking into each screening's individual booking page, looking to see what seats were left and then trying to remember which previous screening might have been better, or which day and time it was that those seats slightly closer to the middle.
It was impossible.
I want to see the film from the best seat possible and these puppies were selling fast. So I took matters into my own hands.
With my better booking system you can:
- See every remaining free seat (red) across all 73 screenings
- Click on any given seat across all showings and see which screenings it is still available for
- Click through and purchase the seat from the BFI website
The BFI IMAX tickets sold out so quickly that I made a second version for the better kept secret that is the Science Museum IMAX, which still has some decent seats available into January.
You can play around with them both for yourself here:
I'll let you know how it feels to watch Dune 3 from the third row of the BFI IMAX at 8.30am on opening day in a future Issue.
Now for the clicky part! Would you want this for cinemas in your town?

Tailor the next Cut/daily training course on AI workflows
Over the last few months I've been pulling together a ton of valuable insights for Cut/daily's next email-based training course on AI workflows in Post.
But it's more important that I hear from you on where you're using AI today, where you're struggling with the results and where you'd most appreciate some professional input.
While I love surveys, not everyone does so there's a special thank you for anyone who completes this super quick survey to help shape the next training to everyone's benefit.
