#400 - Nobody asked for this, but...
No one asked me to start Cut/daily 400 issues ago, but yet here we are today anyway!
You're welcome.
Similarly, just as no one has asked for any of the things I'm about to share in this celebratory issue of Cut/daily, I thought I'd give them a punt anyway, as these are three small experiments I'm really curious to explore.
What's the worst that can happen?
400 issues? Congrats. What's next for Cut/daily?
- More of the same! A useful insight delivered every week
- Excellent upcoming Cut/daily Meets... interviews
- More YouTube videos
- New ways to connect, engage and learn
As always, I love to hear from you, so feel free to hit reply to any Cut/daily email and let me know what you're thinking about!
Ten of the Most Popular Issues So Far...
To celebrate 400 issues, here's a look back at 10 of the most popular issues:
- #338 - Turns out I've been doing this wrong for years...
- #377 - How Eddie Does It (AKA 11 Ways to Organise Your Timeline)
- #392 - Smart Advice from a Savvy Assistant
- #001 - A Free App that Gives Back
- #288 - How to Edit Under Pressure
- #248 - Track Targeting Your Way to a Speedier Edit
- #256 - (HS) - The One Simple Trick Edition
- #286 - A Different Way to Solve Problems
- #271 - If you were to start over again?
- #226 - What are Turnovers?
And now on to those three experiments that no one has asked for!
#1. Cut/daily on a T-shirt - The Merch Store is Open
No one asked for Cut/daily merch, but heck, I thought it would be fun.
And maybe you'll get some looks of genuine kudos if you're spotted sporting one of these bad boys around the edit suite?
If you do, send me a photo!
Setting this up was waaaay more work than I anticipated, and I'm still not 100% sure I've got all the maths right, given the various taxes, payment processing, platform fees, and fulfilment costs involved.
Expect some price volatility in the next while while I iron out the kinks.
That said, if you do order now, you might actually get a bargain if I've accidentally underpriced things. I'll let you know if I manage to drop the prices, too.
Either way, I've tried to keep the profit margin razor thin - because that's not the point of this exercise! It was supposed to be fun...
ββ> TAKE ME TO THE MERCH STORE!
#2. A New Way of Learning
As someone who writes an email to 1500+ people every week, I've been thinking about writing some other kinds of emails. Specifically, a series of concise emails that might teach you a specific post-production skill over the course of a single week.
Introducing Cut/daily Micro Training Courses!
Much like Cut/daily, these email-based micro training courses deliver a concise insight a day, guiding you deeper into a particular Post-Production topic, with plenty of resources to extend your exploration in your own time.
So, in the spirit of experimentation and seeking product-market fit, can you click this link and tell me which of these courses you'd sign up for?
- The course with the most votes will be launched first
- The first 20 pre-registrations will get free beta-testing access
- At launch, each course will cost $10
- When each course launches, you'll be the first to know.
VOTE FOR THE FIRST MICRO TRAINING COURSE...
Here are the initial micro training courses I could launch:
Editing Tips for Beginners β There are a few things everyone gets wrong at the beginning of their editing journey. This course will fix a fistful of those with practical guidance and technical understanding.
AI Tools for Post β Save time, effort and money with a handful of AI-powered tools built for busy post-production professionals. Work smarter, not harder, with the right tool for the job.
Managing Freelance Finances β Creative people often find managing money difficult. After 20 years of freelancing, here's my simple recipe for getting the money stuff right.
Adding Audio Polish β Improving the quality of your audio is the cheapest way to elevate the entire project. Add production value to every project you touch with these essential audio polishing skills.
Mastering Editorial VFX β Discover a handful of invisible fixes that every editor should have up their sleeve to actually fix it in Post. You'll end up using these more often than you might like!
It's Your Time to Shine...

#3. The Micro-Consulting Experiment
Could a 1-on-1 conversation with yours truly help you advance your career, discover transformative resources, or navigate a tricky situation you're facing in a 20-minute chat?
Maybe!
That's the premise of my micro-consulting experiment, in which you can book a 20-minute chat with me on a topic of your choice.
- Technical help
- Feedback on cuts/reels/websites etc.
- Editing Career questions
- Freelancing considerations
- Creative side hustle assistance
- Anything
Here's the best part. You can either pay $30 to chat privately, or we can turn the whole thing into a micro-podcast episode, and I'll waive the nominal fee.
What's more, to celebrate hitting 400 issues of Cut/daily I'm making the first 4 slots totally free. First come, first served.
Book a slot here, and let me know what you'd like to discuss so I can think ahead!
So remember, no one knows anything and cut daily.
